Bernard JonesIn 1964, Bernard Jones was hired by Armour and Company in Chicago, Illinois, as Manager of Progeny Testing for their Beef Cattle Improvement Research Program. Through his leadership, Armour established the first complete beef cattle progeny test program in America. He returned to his alma mater, the University of Kentucky, in 1966 as an Extension Assistant Professor of Animal Science. He became the first honorary member of the Kentucky Charolais Association, Director of Purebred Herds of America, and Advisor for Performance Registry International.

In 1969, he was selected Director of Beef Programs for Curtiss Breeding Industries. He served as Chairman of the National Association of Animal Breeders Beef Development Committee and on the Advisory Board of the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center. He was named Vice President of Marketing and Distribution for Curtiss Breeding Industries in 1974 and served on the Editorial Advisory Board for Agri-Marketing, the Industry Advisory Board for the American Angus Association, and was Chairman of the American Society of Animal Sciences Administration Committee.

In 1977, he was named head of the Department of Animal Sciences at Colorado State University where he received the 1980 Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Academic Department Head.
