Robert Quick served more than 30 years in adult and continuing education with the Air Force. Upon his departure from the Pentagon, he received the Air Force's Award for Meritorious Civilian Service "in recognition of his distinguished performance as Chief, Education Services Programs Division, Directorate of Personnel Programs, Headquarters United States Air Force from 1963 to 1981. . ." He brought professional guidance counselor positions to the United States Air Force in 1971, facilitating the employment of over 260 guidance counselors throughout Europe, the Far East, and the U.S. This accomplishment led to the American Association for Counseling and Development working with all branches of the military today. This partnership also resulted in the creation of the Military Education and Counselors Association.
From 1963 to the mid-1980s, he was instrumental in increasing the Air Force's educational offerings from a random scattering of evening courses to a complex and comprehensive system of on-base programs and helped develop the Community College of the Air Force.
For the last few years before his retirement in 1985, he directed Air Force Education Programs in Europe where he managed Air Force support for the DOD Dependent Schools as well as Professional Military Programs.
