“Preparing the Workforce for the Information Society”

Third International Conference on Adult Education

When Dr. Laurentiu Soitu (HOF 2008), director of the Lifelong Learning Institute at Alexandru Cuza University of Iasi, Romania, organized the Third International Conference on Adult Education, he invited the International Adult & Continuing Education (IACE) Hall of Fame to present a day-long symposium.

The conference was organized by the University of Oklahoma Outreach, the Romanian Institute for Human Rights and the Hall of Fame as part of the University’s 150th anniversary celebration.

“The conference,” Professor Dr. Soitu said, “aimed to initiate and support a dialog between specialists and practitioners from continuing education and adult education . . . regarding the opportunities of workforce development in the new conditions of the information society.”

The conference featured papers by three Hall of Fame Members:

• Dr. Carol Kasworm (HOF 2002) opened the conference with a paper on “New Possibilities for Preparing the Information Workforce.”

• Dr. Gary Miller (HOF 2004) presented a paper on “Collaboration versus Competition: Trends in Online Learning for Workforce Development.”

• Dr. Marcie Boucouvalas (HOF 2003) closed the day with a paper on “Work in the Information Society: Past as Prologue to the Future in Understanding Our Transformational Times.”
