Carol E. Kasworm

Carol E. Kasworm is one of the nation's pre-eminent leaders and scholars in Adult and Continuing Education. She is the Department Head and Professor of the Department of Adult and Community College Education at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina. The College offers one of the nations and international community's largest graduate degree and research programs.
Dr. Kasworm has held faculty positions at University of Tennessee, Knoxville; University of Texas, Austin; University of Houston, Clear Lake; and University of South Florida. She was the Associate Dean of Research and Technology, College of Education, at University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty and Program Development, University of Houston-Clear Lake; Assistant Director of Housing at University of Georgia; Resident Instructor at University of South Florida and Resident Director at Michigan State University. She has been principal investigator or director/co-director of 18 foundation, state, and federal grants.
Her work with the American Association of Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE) has been influential in responding and serving the needs of the diverse professional groups in the practice of adult education.
She is a leading research authority and presenter on adult undergraduate students in higher education, including a number of qualitative studies on adult undergraduate learning and the participation patterns of adults in higher education. She serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Continuing Higher Education and served on the editorial boards of Adult Assessment Forum, Adult Education Quarterly, and been a reviewer for Qualitative Studies in Education, Innovative Higher Education, and Community College Review.
Dr. Kasworm has contributed greatly to the field of Adult and Continuing Education's growing body of knowledge through authoring and co-authoring several books, and a wealth of publications, speeches and workshops. Among her works are 20th Century Thinkers in Adult and Continuing Education, Adult Learning and Technology, and Adults in Higher Education.
In recognition of Dr. Carol Kasworm's contributions to the field of continuing education she has received the University of Tennessee's Chancellor's Award for Research and Creative Achievement (1996), Imogene Okes Research Award (1995), and National University Continuing Education Association's (NUCEA) Outstanding Research Award (1991, and 1993). She has been a major contributor to international forums in Canada, Taiwan, Thailand, Finland, England, Slovenia as well as being a Fulbright-Hayes Scholar to India (1995).
