Clinton Anderson has been a key figure in the military continuing education system. His activities have included planning, developing, and implementing agreements between degree programs among colleges and universities to support military service personnel and their families around the world, particularly in distance learning and nontraditional education.

He is presently the SOCMAR Project Director and Senior Academic Advisor at Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC), American Association of State Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C. In this role, he is responsible for developing and implementing a network of colleges and universities in support of the U.S. Marine Corps and its personnel. He advises the college's director regarding distance learning and nontraditional education. He also serves as a member of the Military Installation Voluntary Education Review teams that visit military bases throughout the world.

From 1985 to 1998, he was the Education Consultant for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C. He developed networks of colleges and universities offering baccalaureate and associate degree programs, mostly by distance learning methodologies, for U.S. service personnel around the world.

Dr. Anderson has produced a wealth of publications and research reports and is a presenter nationally and internationally. In his role with SOC, he compiled a comprehensive history of the organization spanning the years 1972 to 1997 and benchmarking key events and issues. This book was distributed to military educators at the 1997 Department of Defense Worldwide Education Symposium.

He has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards. In 1993, he received the Tilton Davis, Jr., Award, presented by the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education. He also received the Outstanding Ruritan of the Year from the Effinger Ruritan Club in 1984. He was presented with the IMAGE Award by the Pentagon IMAGE Chapter for efforts on behalf of Spanish-speaking soldiers in 1982. His military honors include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
