Hall of Fame Class of 1996

Jerry Apps is Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition to his teaching and research activities, he held a joint appointment with the University of Wisconsin-Extension for 25 years. Early in his career he worked as a county extension agent for the Cooperative Service. He served as Chair of the Department of Continuing and Vocational Education for 7 years and was Associate Director for Staff Development at the University of Wisconsin-Extension for 10 years. He has also taught creative writing for more than 25 years at adult learning centers.

For many years he taught graduate credit courses at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was a Landsdowne Scholar at the University of Victoria in 1991 and Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Alberta in 1988 and at the University of Alaska in 1995.

He has served as Commissioner for the American Council of Education and as a consultant to the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. He has received awards from the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education, the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, The Wisconsin Council for Writers, Wisconsin Library Association, The Wisconsin Association for Adult and Continuing Education, the University Extension, and the Robert E. Gard Foundation.
