John Snider continues a 36-year career in adult and continuing education. As current Dean of Continuing Studies at The University of Alabama, he facilitated the university's first degree-granting distance education program that serves 75-100,000 adult learners annually. He also steered the course of the Bryant Conference Center allowing it to become one of the most utilized state-of-the-art adult learning sanctuaries in the nation. Earlier, as Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs in Continuing Education at Colorado State University, he built the Division of Continuing Education into one of the largest continuing education units in the Rocky Mountain region. He also directed the first elderhostel at Colorado State University and directed the first College for Living, for developmentally disabled adults.

In addition to his many publications, he also researched and developed "Microville", an educational simulation game, being used as a teaching device in 26 colleges in the U.S. and Canada.

Awards and honors include the Julius M. Nolte Award, the National University Continuing Education Association's highest leadership award, the Colorado Association of Continuing Adult Education's Leadership Award, and West Palm Beach Florida's "Teacher of the Year" Award. He also was elected President of The National University Continuing Education Association for 1985-1986.
