Paul E. Hadley

Paul E. Hadley is Professor Emeritus of International Relations and former Academic Vice President of the University of Southern California. At USC, he also served as Associate Vice President for Academic Planning and Research, Dean of the College of Continuing Education, and Chair of the Department of Comparative Literature. Now as Director of USC=s Emeriti College, he is responsible for organizing intellectual activities for retired faculty and staff.

Before joining USC in 1945, Dr. Hadley was Director of the Cultural Institutes Unit in the U.S. Department of State, Washington, D.C., and Director of the Paraguayan-American Cultural Center in Asuncion, Paraguay. He specialized in the international relations of Latin America, having traveled in and written extensively about the region, and he served as the first President of the Pacific Coast Council of Latin American Affairs.

He has served as President, Secretary, board member, and other offices of the National University Extension Association (later the University Continuing Education Association). His presidency was marked by the development of programs in the professionalization of continuing educators, an emphasis on the participation and recognition of minority educators in the association, and a dedication to the setting of standards and appropriate forms of accreditation of institutional and national programs of continuing education.

In addition, Dr. Hadley served as President of the Association of University Summer Session, Chair and organizing member of the Association of Adult Educators of Greater Los Angeles, and member of many other organizations devoted to adult and continuing education.

In 1992, he received the Distinguished Emeritus Award from USC. In recognition of his contributions to the field of continuing education he received from UCEA the Julius M. Nolte Award and the Military Educators Award. He is listed in Who's Who in America. Dr. Hadley is also a member of the honorary scholarship societies, Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi.
