Thomas Bergin

Thomas Bergin is Professor at the University of Notre Dame and Founding Director of its Center for Continuing Education. Established as one of the early Kellogg Centers, it has flourished, in no small measure, because of his leadership. He strengthened the field of university continuing education through work on his own campus as well as on the state and national levels where he has championed the importance of lifelong learning to foundation, business, and civic leaders. 

He has been very active in the National University Continuing Education Association, serving two terms on its Board of Directors, the Government Relations Committee, chairing the Charter and Bylaws Committee, and acting as the Association's liaison to the American Alumni Council.

For more than four decades, he has been a member of the faculty of Business Administration at the University of Notre Dame. He was appointed Head of the Department of Business Administration in 1952 and was named the Jesse Jones Professor of Business Administration in 1961. He served as a Special Consultant to the U.S. Department of Commerce in the summers of 1960 and 1961 and was appointed by President Kennedy to the Advisory Board on Economic Development to the U.S. Department of Commerce in 1961.
