Who is eligible for the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame James P. Pappas Scholarship?

You must be a North American or international adult education major and working toward the completion of a higher education degree, preferably in the fields of adult and higher education or continuing education. For European students, this means a diploma/license or bachelors, a meister or master’s or PhD.

Is there a GPA or credit hour requirement?

Yes. You must have a minimum of 15 or more hours (units) and a cumulative 2.5 GPA if you are seeking a diploma, license, or bachelor’s degree; you must have six or more hours (units) and a cumulative 3.0 GPA if you are seeking a meister or master’s or PhD.

I don’t know my academic advisor or a faculty member that well; may I choose a different person to complete the recommendation form?

No. One recommendation must be from a faculty member or academic advisor in your program.

Must I use the IACEHOF recommendation form or can I simply obtain a letter of recommendation?

The IACEHOF recommendation form from the IACEHOF website must be used or the application will be considered incomplete and ineligible for review.

How long should my essay be?

The essay, written in English, for the scholarship will be judged on written content and writing skills and should be at least 400-750 words in length. In your essay you should identify current issues and challenges in the field of adult education and/or continuing education. What do you see as future trends for the field? In what way(s) do you hope to impact the field? What is your personal philosophy of lifelong learning? 

Are the scholarships renewable or do I have to apply each year?

Previous winners are eligible to reapply for the IACEHOF James P. Pappas Scholarship.

How am I notified if I win?

The scholarship recipient will receive an email from the IACEHOF Chair of the Scholarship Committee six weeks after the application deadline. 

If I am awarded the scholarship, is the money sent to my school?

No, the scholarship check is sent to the student in time for the spring semester (January).

What is the application period for the scholarship?

The IACEHOF James P. Pappas Scholarship application period is from July 1 to October 3.

Must I write a report to the ICAEHOF if I am selected for the scholarship?

No. Scholarship recipients are not required to write a follow-up report; however, we would be interested to learn how you have used the scholarship and how you are progressing in your program and career.

Must I telephonically met wit the Hall of Fame Board?

Yes, scholarship recipients must attend the beginning of the Board meeting following award of the scholarship. Please also submit a resumé and photo of yourself to the Chair of the Scholarship Committee.
