Hall of Fame Class of 1996

Edward Simpson, Jr.'s 25-year career in higher education has dealt with the issues and policies affecting the delivery, administration, acceptance, and quality of adult and continuing education programs, as well as the improvement of professionals in the field. He served as a tenured faculty member and administrator at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) from 1971-1983. In 1976, he served as co-director of the Standard IX Study which addressed the accreditation standard for continuing education activities as administered by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Since 1983, he has been at The University of Georgia as a faculty member in the Department of Adult Education and an Associate Vice President for Services (Outreach). His overarching responsibilities since 1983 have been as director of The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education, the world's largest university-based residential adult conference facility.

Over 20 years of involvement with the National University Continuing Education Association (NUCEA) has resulted in various leadership roles including president in 1995-1996. Additional work as a NUCEA officer contributed to the establishment of effective working relationships with professional associations in Mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the European University Continuing Education Network.
