Hall of Fame Class of 1996

Peyton Hutchison served as President of AAACE (1992-1993), the Chicago Literacy Coordinating Center, Phi Delta Kappa, and on the Council of Presidents of the United Negro College Fund. He was appointed to the Illinois Literacy Council and the Illinois Department of Corrections Board of Education. He has also been honored by the Chicago Public Library with the Carl Sandberg Media/Community Responsibility Award and with membership in Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and Phi Beta Sigma Honor Society and is listed in Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in Black America. From 1950 until 1973, he was affiliated with the Detroit Public Schools in numerous capacities. From 1973 to 1984, he was Director and subsequently Vice President and President of the Chicago Urban Skills Institute of the City Colleges of Chicago.

From 1984 until 1994, he served as Adjunct Professor at Roosevelt University, Executive Director of the Literacy Project at the City Colleges of Chicago, Executive Dean/Director of Richard J. Daly College, and Interim President of Knoxville College.

He has held numerous consultancies, traveled extensively, and been actively involved in community affairs, including serving on the Executive Committee of the American Cancer Society.
