HALL OF FAME INDUCTIONS

Quentin Gessner

Quentin Gessner

Hall of Fame Class of 1996

Quentin Gessner served as Associate Director of the University Extension Service at The University of Michigan from 1962 to 1974 and as Dean of Continuing Studies and Professor of Adult Education at The University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 1974 to 1989. He was responsible for conceptualizing the development of a State-wide Coordinating Council for Higher Education in Nebraska and for independent study via television at The University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As an accreditation reviewer at five institutions, he was responsible for the Dean of Continuing Education's position being elevated to a staff position in Academic Affairs. He was also responsible for bringing continuing education into a more visible role with the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities as a member of the Accreditation Task Force of the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation. His professional activities also included membership on the Educational Telecommunications Committees of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges, and the American Council on Education. Many of his honors--the Julius M. Nolte Award, the Stanley R. Robinson Award, and the Innovative Award in Continuing Education--stem from his highly active involvement in the National University Continuing Education Association of which he was President.
