The contributions of Dr. John A. Henschke to the field of adult and continuing education are significant and admirable. He has published some 30 research articles; chaired 10 doctoral dissertations; served as a member of 13 other completed dissertations since 1986; developed syllabi for 20 graduate courses in adult education, which he has taught to more than 3,000 students over a 15-year period; worked and interacted internationally with adult and continuing educators in 40 countries; and served in leadership roles in national and state organizations.

His more than 100 adult education paper, conference, and workshop presentations to various international, national, regional, state, and local gatherings have strongly impacted the field of adult and continuing education. In international settings he has conducted workshops and conferences and delivered papers to audiences in Brazil, Slovenia, United Kingdom, Germany, Egypt, Jordan, Cyprus, Sudan, West Bank, Gaza, Jerusalem, Holland, and Nicaragua.

He has served the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education as President; Theory, Research, and Evaluation Board member; and Adult Learning Editorial Board member. He served as President, Secretary, and Editor of the Missouri Valley Adult Education Association. He has also served as President, Board member, and Adult and Community Education Committee Chair for the Missouri, USA/Para, Brazil Partners of the Americas, Inc.

Over a period of 18 years, Dr. Henschke has been recognized by many awards and honors: the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence to an Academic Non-Regular, Distinguished Faculty Award, Everett M. Hosman Founder’s Award, Membership Award, Distinguished Service Award, Teamwork Award, Outstanding Missouri Adult Educator, and Achievement Award.

Dr. Henschke’s tireless efforts on behalf of adult and continuing education include, too, an active involvement in religious endeavors. He is an ordained clergyman in the American Baptist Churches in the USA and the Christian Church/Disciples of Christ and has been a practicing pastoral minister full and part time for more than 25 years. In this role, he has conducted educational conferences and workshops for religious organizations and churches in and out of the U.S.
